Community Animation: Collective Art Making for Collective Liberation - #2
Tuesday, August 20th 6 - 9PM
PLACE LB 2172 Pacific Avenue,
Long Beach, CA
90806
Free Drop-In! Donations welcome:)

Join local artist Wynn Barnard (IG - @wynncredible) for a community animation workshop.
Animations are created when we string together lots of images (called frames) to create the illusion of movement. For this workshop, participants will color in the frames for a short animation inspired by the movement for Palestinian liberation.
As we color, we will consider the impact of our seemingly small individual contributions to collective movement-building, using each drawing as a prayer, a commitment or a demand for ending the genocide and building the world we want to live in.
This experimental workshop is an opportunity for us to come together around a simple, focused activity to share space, get to know each other, and reflect as we re-commit to the work ahead.

Free, drop-in, and food provided. Any donations will go to Gaza mutual aid. All ages and experience levels are welcome. DM @wynncredible with questions or access needs. Masks required!

Learn how to use a sewing machine! Do you want to make your own clothes but were discouraged when you realized you didn't know how to operate a sewing machine? If so, join us as we learn how to thread and operate a domestic sewing machine, learn a few troubleshooting tricks, and sew our own reversible handkerchief! Sewing machines will be provided! Through teaching, Radical Sewist envisions a sewing community for BIPOC, queer, and trans people. We see sewing not only as an individual’s way to reject capitalism, but as a collective’s tool to manifest liberation. We denounce fashion as much as we denounce fascism; we aspire to connection as much as we aspire to creation. Community is our heart–and to us, that means holding space for the interweaving of disability, race, culture, queerness, and neurodivergence. We aim to be a nurturing, co-created place: a space where self-care is a priority and all abilities are welcome. Won’t you join us, comrade?
